A report on the E3 Partners Expedition to Ukraine, July 15-23. We took a team of 21 people from Georgia, Texas, Ohio and California, and divided to work in 2 towns in the L’viv (luh-VEEV) region of the country. The towns were Sokal and Chervonograd.

Our plans were similar to our last summer trip to Ukraine, with some adjustments. The schedule was, essentially, like this:

        9:00 – 10:00:    Breakfast

         10:00 – 2:00:   Street Evangelism

           2:00 - 3:00:    Lunch

           3:00 - 4:30:    Prep for English Classes

5:00 - 7:00:    English Lessons (with evangelistic appointments to follow...)

For the street evangelism, we decided to bring some ‘extras’ to the table. For example, I brought my laptop and plenty of blank cds with the plan of doing some mini photo shoots in the park to help meet and engage with people, burning cds of the photos for them right there. I gave them to a couple of team members to use the first morning. When they came back, they said, “We didn’t use it…we didn’t need it!” Some Ukrainians approached them, first!

Similarly, the English Lessons had many interested in more than English. One lady said she came to be part of the English Lessons because, “I heard you were going to talk about Jesus.”

Do you ever wonder if God would REALLY use you on a mission trip?

We had one conversation that took about 1 hour. At first the Gospel was not taken seriously. But as time went by, their faces and their questions became more and more serious. Irean Steblova and pastor Serhei and I shared with 5 people in this situation. 4 of them understood and accepted the Gospel.

Overall, 475 people heard a clear presentation of the Gospel, and 106 took a step of faith by asking Christ to be their Lord.  One lady was so happy, whe wanted to come meet the entire team (at lunch) to tell us what it meant to her, and to thank us for coming!

What a privilege to see people both understand and accept!

Ukraine News - Tax Protests...sound familiar?

On 16 November 2010, thousands of protesters rallied outside the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine's legislature) in Kiev to protest the adoption of the new tax code. Organizers claimed that 30,000 people were participating in the demonstration and that 20,000 more were expected to join in the course of the day, but other sources have not confirmed these figures. The demonstrators urged representatives to vote down the proposed tax code, which they say will favor large enterprises and deprive small businesses of desperately needed tax breaks. Traffic was blocked from the Kyiv hotel to the European Square. Interior forces from the Interior Ministry have kept the protest under tight control, and no violence has been reported.

***If you have not yet done so, please take a look at the videos below.  They will give you a 'nice tasts' of Ukraine.  One is quite long (also quite superbly done!), while the other is short.  Pour yourself a cup of chai or kava and enjoy!

Did You Know....

Just 2.7 percent of the 48,723,953 Ukrainian population calls itself an evangelical Christian?

In order for there to be 1 church for every 1,000 people in Ukraine, 29,000 more churches are needed?

If the current growth rate of churches continues as it is now, it will take 166 years to have 1 church for every 1,000 people in Ukraine?

If every single evangelical church in Ukraine plants one new church each year (newly planted churches included), 166 years drops to 1.3 years?

If only 5 churches in the entire nation decide to plant 1 new church each year (with newly
planted churches following the same model), 166 years drops to 12.5 years?

A Few Scenes from 2009 & 2010 Church Planting trips to the Volyn Region of Ukraine

Just a 10-minute memory reel

Along with the blessings God brought to these trips in terms of new church plants and people coming to understand and embrace the Gospel, there are wonderful memories of names, faces....and a wonderful unity of people who, while they are from different countries, are brothers and sisters.

I hope this brings a smile to your face - and, perhaps, causes God to move in someone's heart to join the work in Ukraine.
