What’s the one thing you can’t live without? Is it coffee? Chocolate? Your favorite song? For those living in Myanmar, it’s rice. They quite literally cannot live without it.
The people of Myanmar eat rice for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert, and the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that devastated the country on March 28 left hundreds of thousands without most things, including this precious resource of rice.
Thanks to relief efforts through supporters like you, our Myanmar Strategy Coordinator Shane*, and our trusted in-country partners, e3 Partners Ministry has distributed more than 5,500 kg of life-sustaining rice to those affected by the catastrophic earthquake.
But more important than the rice is the message our partners are delivering with it: the Gospel.
“We get to share with them that Jesus is the rice of life,” said John*, one of our partners in the region.
In addition to rice and other food, e3 has already provided clean water, medical kits, and tarps to more than 25,000 people. And we’ve shared the hope of Christ with them along the way.
One of these was a former senior general in the Burmese Army who quit the Junta military after the 2021 coup. He and his son opened their hearts to Christ for the first time when John delivered supplies to them and shared the good news of salvation.
John was able to use a story from Buddhist scriptures to help this former general and his son understand the Gospel. In the Buddhist tale, a rabbit king (pre-incarnated Buddha) gives his life to feed a starving monk. John compared the rabbit king’s sacrifice to Jesus’s death for us on the cross.
“You could see them literally leaning into the story with eagerness,” John said. “Ironically, the rabbit king story communicated the Gospel with Burmese Buddhists on Easter Sunday! What a blessing to serve in such a responsive harvest field.”
Jesus directed His disciples to search for a Person of Peace in Luke 10:5, and this former general certainly is such a person. Our apostolic team is now using his tea shop as a central hub for distributing supplies and the Gospel message.
It’s because of the generosity of people like you that we’re able to provide food, water, shelter, and – mostly importantly – the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of Myanmar. We believe your giving will produce Kingdom impact and bring many more people to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
If you would like to help us spread the Gospel and plant churches among more people in Myanmar and all around the world, give now.
