Carmen* is a believer. Her husband, Amadi*, is not. They live in a remote Ethiopian village where visitors are a rarity. For years Carmen tried to lead her husband to Christ, but with each attempt, Amadi told her the same three words, “I don’t believe”. Then, late one night, longing for her husband to know and love Christ as she does, Carmen prayed, asking God to send someone else to share the gospel with him.
The very next day, a team from e3 Partners came knocking at their door! Carmen knew immediately that they were an answer to her prayer, and she invited them in. The team shared the gospel with Amadi and expressed how Jesus had transformed their lives. Amadi listened intently, and although he still wasn’t fully convinced, he told them that he was starting to believe more.
Amadi spent the rest of the day with the e3 team, helping translate as they shared the gospel with others in the village. He helped bring several people to Christ that day, and with each one, he found himself drawing nearer to the Lord.
It tells us in Mark 4:26-27, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.”
We can plant the seeds, but it is only God who can make them sprout. Carmen and the e3 team planted the seed of the gospel in Amadi’s heart. Now our prayer is that God will help it sprout, knowing that when it does, Carmen will be right there, ready to walk alongside him in faith.
