We want to help people learn easy ways to share the hope and love of Christ with their neighbors in the midst of this crisis. People are searching for hope right now, and as Christians, we have an opportunity to share the one true source of hope with them. This series is meant to do just that — to share the hope of Jesus through looking at specific stories in the Bible.

“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” — 1 Peter 3:15

The Content:
The Bible Stories of Hope series is a discovery Bible study on Jesus’ authority over all. Each week we’ll go through a story from the book of Luke highlighting Jesus, His love, His power, and ultimately the hope He gives us. We’ll discuss what the story teaches us, and how we should apply the lesson to our lives.

The Format - Bible Stories of Hope

The Format:
Each session starts with a time of care, allowing each person to briefly share how they are doing. Then we move into a time of accountability where we follow up on the actions we challenged ourselves to do at the end of the previous week’s session (e.g. share the Bible story with someone else).

From there, we move into a time of studying — reading through a new Bible story and discussing the meaning and importance of the story. We answer questions from the text and then practice retelling the story so that we can build confidence in sharing it with others. Lastly, we close by thinking of someone in our sphere of influence we can share the story with in the coming days, and then we pray together.

Around six years ago, friends and fellow pastors at Citylights Church OC, Steve & Takeshi, encouraged me to visit Vietnam. My family fled the country as refugees at the end of the Vietnam War when I was only a year old. At the nudging of God, the three of us went to Vietnam to pray and seek God’s direction for ministry. What I experienced during that trip changed my life. I’d love to tell you about what God has done in the past five years. Unexpectedly, God opened a door for me to train pastors and church planters, lead conferences, and help plant new churches in Vietnam.

I continued praying that God would open up doors for me to continue this work in Vietnam. That’s when I was introduced to a group of like-minded missionaries from a well-established, church planting, mission organization called E3 Partners, which has over 400 missionaries in 65 countries and works with over 2,000 national missionaries. They exist to “EQUIP God’s people to EVANGELIZE His world and ESTABLISH His Church.”  One of the leaders of E3 asked me to join E3 as a Church Planting Multiplier to recruit, train, and help form missionary teams to plant missional churches locally in California and in Vietnam.

I know what you’re thinking. And no, I am not leaving Citylights Church OC. The board of elders has agreed with this calling and has approved that I stay on as Lead Pastor on a part-time basis. So no, we’re not moving. Kerry and I, and the kids, are staying in Orange County. Although the job does include traveling regularly to Vietnam, my home-base will still be in California.

Through much counsel and prayer, and God willing, my goal is to be able to step into this new role by the Fall of 2019. I’m really excited about this next ministry assignment. Our team has big dreams of establishing 500 missionary teams across California and 50 in Vietnam in the next 3-5 years.

Thanks for allowing me to share this quick update with you. This is a big step of faith for me and my family. I am in the process of building a team of prayer and financial partners to support us in this new ministry venture. We would be honored and filled with gratitude if you would consider becoming one of our prayer and financial ministry partners.

Will you join my mission?  Your monthly support provides for my practical needs, protects me against financial emergencies that may disrupt my ministry, and supplies ongoing training and resources.
