As readers may already be aware, the people of India are suffering tremendously right now due to a deadly resurgence of COVID-19. In April 2021, local hospitals began to overflow beyond capacity, while medical supplies—particularly oxygen—ran critically low. Due to the staggering number of deaths, bodies were left on the streets and crematoriums broke down due to ‘round-the-clock use.
By May, the country hit a grim milestone: 27 million total cases and 300,000 total deaths—the third-highest of any country in the world. As of today, India is on pace to eclipse 400,000 deaths in just a matter of days, and many of these people are dying without knowing the name of Jesus.
While e3 Partners normally focuses our efforts on evangelism, discipleship, and church planting, we felt that a crisis of this magnitude warranted a special response from our organization. As such, we created a humanitarian aid fund for India in early May, and since then, we’ve been hard at work distributing this aid within the country.
Our donors’ generous contributions have allowed us to provide physical relief to some of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the world in the form of urgently-needed food, medicine, face masks, hand sanitizer, vitamins, and more. This act of love is also opening the door to conversations about Jesus. Our teams on the ground are boldly proclaiming the gospel and they are reporting many professions of faith in Christ, followed by baptisms.
