Hello!  

  • I (Patrick) came to know Jesus the Christ as Lord and Savior at the University of Houston in 1982. Shalyn was raised in a Christian home, with God's sense of call from an early age. We  mentor others in many countries for their ministry success.  In 2020 and 2021 we both lost our spouses to cancer and later met at church, where the Lord brought us together.
  • Our home base, north of Seattle, is something like a train station between ministry trips ! !    
  • We help out with member care for on-the-field missionaries, but we also train and disciples others.  We give to other God's desire for new churches, as Patrick has seen this first hand in Honduras and elsewhere. He has seen that through the years, the Lord has done great things and started many many ‘chains of churches' in the western mountains of Honduras and around the world.

  • Safely Home from the Texas Border (again) June 2024

    We have taken nine ministry trips to the Texas / Mexico border over the last 14 months.  And we feel that  -- as the Lord permits -- we want to re-locate there in 2025.

    We would still serve internationally now and again (based on resources and invitations) yet we feel that the huge swath of land (viz. the border area) could allow for important outreach for some time.

    Please pray with us, as there remain many items on out 'to do" list. Yet we want to strategically use our lives for His best desire.

  • Safely Home from Perú & South Texas (Feb 1, 2024)

    Dear friends and supporters:

    Ministry Part 1 - - -

    My NE Perú ministry trip was safe and sound with an emphasis on time with in-country church planter (Michael Muñoz), with whom I had MANY hours with in boats, river towns and churches. A highlight was to see him acquire a much needed new Moto-Taxi, which he uses to help sustain his family.

  • Safely Home From Honduras (dated to July 2023)

    My time recently in Honduras was on the back end of a very good south Texas border ministry trip with Shalyn. From Texas, I utilized the proximity to Honduras to have 5.5 days in the western mountains (where my family and lived many years) to do a circuit trip with persons in Honduras.

    The time proved to be a very good investment as I saw that God continues to work in Western mountains.

    My heart rejoiced especially for the development of the Chortí Indian work and new churches (near Copán Ruinas).

  • Safely Home From South India + NE India (May 14 2023)

    I am now safely home from a fortnight ministry trip to India.

    Ministry time was with Issac Hanna of Monroe, WA. who is great ministry + traveling partner.

    Isaac + I have had breadth + depth of training others in south India, but also in NE India.

    The leaders in India (with whom I have ministered regularly since 2007) are thriving in their ministries.

  • Safely Home From Texas / Mexico Border (April 8, 2023)

    Friends, 

    Patrick and I had a very good and wonderful ministry trip, and we are now safely home. 

    We met various local leaders and missionaries in McAllen, Texas, encouraging them and being encouraged by the work God is doing there at the Texas-Mexican border.

    We spent time at "Senda One" immigrant camp in Reynosa Mexico praying with people, and a part of our hearts now remain there.

  • Safely Home from Belize (January) + a Honeymoon (February)!

    #1 - - - Home from Belize (January 2023).

    In January I had a short five day ministry time in Belize which allowed me to connect and collaborate with in-country leaders to pray about plans for future training in the area of church strengthening and outreach.  Shalyn and I are making ourselves available for training within Belize for this purpose, with the Conservative Baptist churches.  We have an open invitation to return to Belize and we feel that (in complement with others locations we minister in) that Belize Church training has a location-advantage for us:  it is closer/less expensive to travel to than many of the other countries we travel to (i.e. Burundi Africa or Nepal).

    #2 - - - Home from a Honeymoon! (Feb 2023)

    Following our Jan 29th wedding in Washington, Shalyn and I snuck off to an exotic place far and away for time to reflect on God’s grace and goodness toward us.   Phenomenal: that even during our get-away we were planning and accepting an invitation for our 1st major ministry trip - - - > Lord willing, this June to co-lead a Leader Training event in Malawi, Africa. (A few details pending.) 

    Our marriage verse: Eph 3:20.... "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us."

  • Safely Home From Burundi, Africa (November 14, 022)

    I'm safely home this week from a very good 19 day trip.

    The principal part of this trip was in Burundi where I was asked to train 20 leaders on themes for healthy church life, healthy marriage and healthy discipleship.

    It went extremely well and I was so glad that I went. It was very invigorating for me on a personal level and I can't wait to get back there again this was my second time that country.

  • Safely Home From Perú. July 3rd, 2022

    This trip is the culmination of seven months of back-to-back monthly travel since December. It was all by design to spend lots of time in Latin America so as to pray through my ongoing next steps through life.

    Highlights within Peru were eyeball to eyeball time with regional leaders, but also certain short opportunities to provide training.

    July, August and September are allocated for USA travel (OK, CO, CA, OR and BC, Canada) - - with no international travel until October 24th (Ireland with e3 Partners).

    Please pray with me for His best wisdom for RELATIONS, COMMUNICATIONS & ASPECTS of life.

  • Safely home from the Mosquito Coast of Honduras (2022 May 31)

    Greetings!

    A special verse recently has been "His God instructs him and teaches him the right way" (Is 28:26), which reminds me of the Fathers loving guidance and care.

    My recent two week ministry trip was in Puerto Lempira of eastern Honduras. This trip was by the request of e3 Partners for me to  help out a team of others to scout out new areas for ministry.

    As part of this trip, the team and I had two days in LA CEIBA where my family and I had lived from1993 - 1995. While there, it was a thrill to recall that in 1994 I had asked my family and the Lord for us to move to the Mosquito Coast, back then. Instead, the Lord sent us to the western mountains.

    I am safely home now (back in Washington state), but I depart for the highlands of Peru in 15 days.  Please pray with me as I minister to others in Peru.

    It was a very good trip.

    The prayer request is a prayer of Thanksgiving for this ministry trip and for God's grace to be a part of His purposes.

  • Safely home now from Mexico (2022, Feb 6)

    Hello from the Seattle area:

    Like an athletic swimmer who has been out of the pool due to certain home-life necessities, he or she has to get “back into the water”, after his or her trauma.  Thus, my recent 21 day ministry trip was – for me – a chance to “get back into the water” of ministry south of the border –– my call (and Debbie’s call) since the early 1980’s.   While in Mexico these past three weeks, I had extended time in Guadalajara, Oaxaca, Puebla, Queretaro, Tequisquiapan and Cabo San Lucas.   Overall, it allowed me to have a lot of relational time with many city leaders and pastors, whom I had already worked with in the past. Too, it also allowed me to think through and pray through my next steps.

  • Safely home from Honduras (2021 July 3)

    Hello from our home base in Washington State:

    I cautiously have the maximum amount of time with Debbie these days, given that our journey with Debbie’s cancer remains our primary focus during this chapter of our lives.

     

    Having said that, I was able to have a short ministry slot of time in Honduras this past week (five days in-country) so as to facilitate & take part in a two day church planting training venue.  It was along the famous “Moskito Coast” of Honduras, and was for regional Moskito speaking pastors.

     

    Life this year is a bit of a juggling experience: allowing Sarah and Kathryn to have time in our home with Debbie while I am gone, yet quickly getting home from Honduras to be with Debbie after this short ministry trip.

     

    Thus, with this post I am again safely home from Honduras   keeping my eyes Debbie, yet juxtaposing

    international relationships.

  • Safely home from Honduras (2021 April 24)

    Dear friends,


    I am safely home from a ministry trip to western Honduras.  

    This has been the first international ministry trip in approximately 14 months (the last one was also to Honduras) and thus I have had very few few travel related updates.

    While in Honduras, I rented a car in San Pedro Sula and made it to seven different locations. I was able to connect with many leaders to spur them on for their respective regional church planting efforts.

    In God's grace, the movement of new churches continues. Churches are strengthened and there are new churches being started. I was also especially asked to help out with ongoing training in the town called Copán Ruinas, where - - during our 16 years in Honduras - - we lived in this town for 4 years. The Chortí Indian outreach (viz new churches) thrives!
    Debbie did very well during my absence and seem to be at a very good and high plateau in terms of strength and stability.

  • Safely home from the Oncologist (May 22, 2020)

    We had a good oncology meeting yesterday. But "good" is loosely defined.


    Our chief oncologist told us again - with great clarity - that  Debbie's situation is very serious.  But he pointedly encouraged me (Patrick) not to live with Debbie's situation as an albatross or burden around my neck, as I have been.  His framework is to live as 'normally' as possible -- in spite of her many lesions.

    It was a reminder to not allow the cancer to lord over me.  He is a Brazilian with a Latin flare, and we like him a lot. But I wonder if these were the words of God which I needed to hear.    It was as if he said:  "I have more bad new but be encouraged".  Only in South America, I think!  Or - perhaps only in the presence of our Most High!

    The good doctor even encouraged me to take ministry trips in the future - once the corona ban is lifted, as a healthy expression of life.

    The Lord is strong and we rest in the Lord!

  • Safely Home now from Honduras (February, 2020)

    The highlight of this 11 day trip within Honduras was to be in the western mountain town Copan Ruinas. You may recall that when Debbie and I and the girls lived in Honduras we had spent four years in this specific town. At the time there were zero churches in the Chortí Indian mountain communities. Our hearts longed for success for new churches in the Chortí communities. But that was not realized while we lived there.

    The Lord did give success for a new Baptist Church in Copan Ruinas (year 2000) and also for daughter churches and granddaughter churches for that church, while we were there. But now - after roughly 20 years - there has been great great success within the mountain communities accomplished by the Lord and

    through in-country pastors. We are really humbled by God's grace and it fills us with glee for His great light in those mountain communities, surrounding Copan Ruinas.

    As a side note, back in 1999 there were only six Evangelical churches in that small town when we lived there. Now there are 33 Evangelical churches in that town and we are told that every Chortí Village has an Evangelical Church within it. I visited two of them last week. We thank the Lord.

    Last week, I also spent three days in the Moskito Coast. I think now we are too old to move there. But that certainly would have been our dream to do that years ago. Time in Puerto Lempira of the eastern seaboard of Honduras allow me to visit and encourage new missionaries who just moved there.

    Too, while in Honduras I also did a partial circuit trip to other areas - - calling on and visiting Honduran leaders. In God's grace, they are working strong in the Lord and the power of His might, for which we thank the Lord.

  • Safely Home now from Africa (January 2020)

    From time in Uganda (December, 2019), I returned home safely from a 2.5 week trip. I ministered with a co-laborer from the jungle of NE Peru, and we ministered with three agencies, training for new churches.

    It was good to train others, yet it was also a good chance for me to process many thoughts from a tumultous fall — many griefs!  Yet, our Lord is the Lord of grief to whom we entrust our hghs and our lows!

    In Uganda we were told that MANY new churches have been started and many more are starting. Church leaders there now prefer not to use the term “house church’ but instead ‘beginner churches’ or ‘baby churches’ (which happen to start off in homes).

    God is strong!  And so we say thank you for being on the journey with us!

  • Safely Home now from Copan Ruinas of Western Honduras (July 2019)

    Hello from the north side of Seattle:


    Many highlights from this previous and somewhat fast 10-day ministry trip to Honduras. One of the many highlights was to be in the town of Copan Ruinas. While there I was with the church which the Lord started back when we lived in that town. They have only been starting daughter churches through the years and most recently have started additional outreaches to the Chortí Indians.


    Another highlight was to participate in an e3 Partners evangelistic Medical Brigade.  As part of this they asked me to spend lots of time in one particular Chorti community called La Pintada, which I did - - two full days. It was lots of up and down climbing in the mountains with excessively poor people who live there, but persons who all of us love dearly. Apparently a great number of persons received the Gospel and (after I departed) another great quantity were baptized. A real thrill!

    Debbie and I are with YWAM on the Olympic Peninsula for three days. They have asked us to train them on the themes close to our heart, so we have been preparing for several months for this event.

  • Safely home from Ministry in Honduras (2019 April 12)

    During this ministry trip, Patrick had time in the Moskito Coast with a new missionary couple. This eastern seaboard sector of Honduras was a thrill as the sub-culutre was that of the ‘Miskito People’ and there seems to be a request for follow-up.

    While Patrick was in eastern Honduras, Debbie had an extended seven day time frame with her annual ladies conference. A GREAT QUANTITY of women came from many locations for this event, including two of Debbie’s ladies from Peru.

    Overall, one of the many highlghts from our time in Honduras was to find out that in the COPAN RUINAS sector that there is an evangelical church in nine out of ten Chorti communities.  Also the church started while Deb and I lived in that town now has daughter and several Grand Daughter churches. Interestingly there were six churches in Copan Ruinas when we lived there (the Baptist church started was #7), but now the town hosts nearly 40 churches. You may recall that Deb and I lived in Copan Ruinas  (1999 to 2003) as part of our 16 lovely years in Honduras (1993 to 2009).

    Other sectors too where we had time have also seen many new churches:  

    — In San Pedro Sula we had time in one of the many new church plants.

    — In Gracias de Lempira, a big movement occurs.

    — In La Esperanza de Intibuca, a vibrant movemnt is ocurring.

  • Safely home from Peru (February, 2019) — A very good ministry trip!

    Hello:

    Well, a highlight of our seven city 17 day trip was to be in very river communities with in-area leaders. Layer upon layer relationships allowed us to ‘go deep’ and deeper with a number of key pastors and in-country leaders.

    But it was hot!  We both kept ourselves hydrated, yet the 24 hour/day heat was daunting.   Our co-workers (with whom we were facilitating various workshops) met us in respective towns and were co-trainers with us. This was by design but it was especially good as it ‘groomed’ them for their role.

     

    Highlights:

     

    ~ Time at the Lima, Peru at the South America Mission Guest house on the front and back end of the trip allowed us to shift gears for our comings and goings. We met several in-country USA missionaries, some of whom went to Moody Bible Institute (our alma mater).

     

    ~ Time in Tarapoto town on Río Huallaga with Jhon Linares and others to “spur them on for love and good deeds”.  Also, to plan and pray about a follow-up ministry in various areas.  Jhon was with me Africa in December, 2018 and India (2015).

     

    ~ Time in Yurimaquas town (also on the Río Huallaga) to have slow time with Pastor Willington and Pastor Ludwer (and their respective church members), but to also challenge them for on-going outreach.

     

    ~ Time in “Santo Auturo” river community (also on the Río Huallaga) to visit with a church there to train and inspire them for God’s important go go go purposes for all of us. Pastor Ludwer of Yurimaquas accompanied us for what he called this ‘mini-missions” up-river trip but later told us that it had been his first time up-river, due to fear fear fear of the river, the water and small boats!  

     

    ~ Time in Lamas town with one leader’s wife for slow eyeball to eyeball interaction on a wide range of personal issues.

     

    ~ Time in Iquitos town on the Amazon for a two day workshop, which I (Patrick) co-led with area leader Michael Muñoz. Debbie also had extended time with the ladies.

     

    ~ Time in river community “San Pablo” (seven hours down river on the Amazon) for three nights where Patrick co-trained with Debbie and Michael Muñoz for a two day workshop.

     

    ~ Time in Arequipa city in the Andes for our final three day leg of this trip with two church plants. Patrick had high altitude laryngitis, but that proved to be a blessing!

    We ponder often, “does our coming along side in-country leaders on their turf, in their language for their ministry in God’s design?” really effect change for His purposes?    Deb and I hope so and so we extend ourselves for this hope.  Life proceeds quickly and it seems “only yesterday” that we were younger and stronger with more go go go energy.  We used to live in Latin America and yet now  -- in a good sort of way – our USA home base allows for various ‘global mentor coaching” ops around the globe.

    A hightlight from this 17 day end-of-the-year ministry trip to Africa was to see my colleague from Peru (Jhon Linares) in action as the primary trainer.  For three major 2-3 day workshops, I served as his “Barnabas" with him as my “Paul”.  

    Jhon and I had been working out the details for this ministry trip since the first part of the year so that he would accompany me to Africa to train others for "churches planting churches".  

    Our agency (e3 Partners of Plano, TX) asks Debbie and me to train and mentor key leaders like Jhon and others…. but our feeling is that the way to do this is to get them (ie Jhon and others) out of their comfort zones.   Like Africa!

  • Safely Home! (November, 2018)

    I titled this mini-post ‘Safely Home’, in that that is where we are!   I have now been home for roughly two months… rare!

    I was to be in Honduras last month (October, ’18) and Africa this month (late Nov., ’18), yet —> as many now know I badly fractured my right ankle in September.

    Please do not remind me of my error for trying lug a heavy mattress upstairs and backwards!  Yes, the mattress won!

    Yet, the Lord also wins as this has been a needed soul and spirit rest.  

    I am on the mend!

    (   ) For Patrick’s safe trip (to and from) Greece this past month (July 12 to 26), where he came alongside others (roughly 35) from around the globe to strategize for on-going church planting training themes. Please pray that Patrick can apply what he learned in Latin America and elsewhere.

     

    (   ) That Deb has been asked to help out with a team of others at our church near Seattle toward “disciples making disciples” in this area (and this church).

     

    (   ) That Kathryn has safely moved back home this summer from graduating from University and now has a very good full-time job in her area of specialty.

    My 14 day Honduras ministry trip this month has been a re-charge for me!

    When I departed for Honduras on May 9th, I had been a bit ‘pooped’ from back to back trips to the Andes (February), to the jungle (April) and elsewhere (January and March).

    In western Honduras, I traveled with my very good friend and colleague Jhon Linares to seven locations in the mountains to follow-up God’s new churches, but to also train and mentor for healthy churches.    This was the area Deb and I (with Victor Almendarez and others) pioneered 1997f.

    Our e3 Partners home office asked me how the trip to Honduras went, and my input to them was:

    Perfect!

    1. What did you set out to do? - To train leaders in 5 regions representing many churches.
    2. What could we have done differently? - Nothing 🙂
    3. What did we learn? - Follow-up and Mentoring is very important .
    4. Follow-up Plans? - Ongoing follow-up and Mentoring in that it is very important.

    Time in Honduras this month was a re-charge and I thank the Lord for this past 14 days ministry trip.

    July has a big ministry trip planned, so this month (June) Deb and I are spending time catching up, but also with Kathryn (freshly home from university). We also celebrate 31 years of loving each others a marrieds!

    Near the end of summer, I am hoping to accompany a new in-country missionary to the Mosquito Coast of eastern-most Honduras in September, for which I am processing hopeful-details to be there in the eastern sector of Honduras

  • Safely home from the Amazon of Peru

    We JUST arrived back home from south America. This trip was harder than many others!  It could be age or it could be that I (Patrick) am exhausted!

    None-the-less, God is good and these are some highlights from three weeks in Peru:

    Patrick had many many miles along the Amazon Rver in Peru (but also Brazil and Colombia) to visit many pastors in a large number of river villages. Training and mentoring for new churches and strong churches was Patrick’s theme.

    Debbie had her 2nd annual women’s conference in Yurimaquas town on the "Rio Huallaga” river with 67 ladies. Two came from Honduras and two from Texas.

    Patrick and Deb had there final portion of this three week trip in Arequipa town, in the south, to come alongside for two days a church planter there for his two church planting sites.

  • Safely home from Peru trip (May 11 to 26, 2018)

    Highlights from Peru this month included shifting into my new (very good) role as e3 Partners Global Mentor Coach, with time in Tacna, Arequipa, Puno, Sicuani and Cuzco. In each location we had training opportunities, but also eyeball to eyeball time with area church planters.   Sicuani was an area where Debbie had participated with jump-starting a new church plant two years ago. That church is thriving! Arequipa town allowed us to be in two new church plants, as did Tacna town (one church). We also trained in Cuzco.

     

    Time with traveling colleague (and new missionary to the jungle of Peru) Casey Laws was a thrill as we deepened our relationship one with another. This was my fifth extended time with Casey and so I tried to share with him -- as best possible -- things I have learnt through the years about the missionary trail. Casey is a godly fellow and we both learnt from each other. He is a thrill!

     

    While in Peru, we purposely took “30 hours off” as an attempt to have a personal retreat of sorts in an indigenous (truly!) village and island of Isla de Tequila. What a thrill!

    This was my first visit to Honduras since our move from Honduras to Seattle in 2009. It was sweet, but on the very day of arrival many Honduran cities were terrorized with civil unrest for political reasons.

     

    * On this trip I had an extended time in San Pedro Sula, with ARNOLD LINARES.  Deb and I had lived in this city in 1996 and so it was a chance to be with new and existing Conservative Baptist churches and to have time with their leaders. I was amazed with the Lord’s grace there. I trained a little, but mostly had interaction with leaders in San Pedro trying to inspire them for more ‘love and good deeds’ in that dangerous city. Details were also put forth to bring a small team of men to help build ARNOLD a home. Would you like to join us for that nine day project in 2018?

     

    * I had three days in the Gracias, Lempira region of the western mountains with VICTOR ALMENDAREZ to lead training for 32 pastors and leaders. It was really sweet to see that God’s movement of new churches which we pioneered in 1997 has endured! We had lived near this sector for three years (1997 to 1999).

     

    * In Copan Ruinas I had time with leaders of a small cluster of ½ dozen new churches. We had lived in that town for four years and the outreach to the Latino and Chorti Indian community has taken root. They very much want a return trip for training. For our 16 years in Honduras our time in Copan was the most difficult yet our hearts were inroads with the Chorti (and non-Chorti) communities there. We still love that region the most.

     

    * In Siguatepeque, where we had ministered six years, I noticed only minimal effect from ministry in that area. But that OK!   ---> One new church, but firm and secure.   Honestly, our hearts had always been in the western rural mountains a bit more than in central Honduras :- ).

     

    Thus ends 2017! It has been a full year, but a very good year. We have pushed ourselves, but we entrust all that we do for the Lord’s purposes.

    We got home safely on Saturday......16+ legs to the 28 day trip for Colombia, Peru and Paraguay.  I, Patrick, had a bad chest cold for the last nine days in Paraquay, but the Lord opened doors for that new entry location.🌡

    I am to be in Honduras in December (Nov 30 to Dec 12) as a long-overdue followup circuit trip with mentes there for God's movement of new churches in the western sector. Training will be for church planting, and I have arranged for two of our Peru leaders to join me from Peru to go with me to Honduras in December, by design.

  • Safely home from Peru and Colombia (July 21 2017)

    Thank you for being with us in prayer and support!

    I am asked to train and mentor others for church planting movements and thus I was in South America this past fortnight. This ten day trip was short and fast, yet with a number of highlights:

            ~ I had time with in-country USA missionaries in Bogota where I was asked to facilitate a deeper level of accountability and friendship with the husband, who has become a very good and respected friend.

            ~ I had time in Liticia, southern Colombia where I met and was impressed with local cross-cultural missionaries who reach out to various river villages up and down the Amazon from southern Colombia into Brazil and Peru.

            ~ I had extended time in Caballococha town on the upper Amazon, deep in what they call the jungle. In this location I had extended time with an e3 Partners-led Expedition which was designed to spur on local churches for new churches.  We did a lot of evangelism and training, but we also encountered 'persons of peace' for new home groups. 

            ~ I had time with  regional pastors in this river area which was heartening to see there profound vision and eager drive for outreach to river communities.

            ~ I had the chance to 'abandon ship' while traveling by river boat east on the Amazon back into Colombia from Peru. That was interesting!

  • Safely home from India and Ireland (a 27 days trip)!

    While our time in Ireland was PLAY (our 30th wedding anniversary), our time in India was WORK.   It is the kind of work that remains a thrill: to train and mobilize others for His best purposes.

     

    While in India participants were in-country Indian missionary couples who arrived from Kerala, Orissa, Kashmir, Manipur and West Bengal. Each participant is an in-country workers sent from their respective states to new areas for outreach. An important colleague and mentor from Australia also participated.

     

    Training in India followed a church planting outline from the New Testament which many call the Four Fields training. But sly missionaries that we are, we trained All participants to co-train with us, as we modeled for them these themes. Training included all participants, so that we trained them to train others. All themes were reinforced through dynamic interaction.   Regional areas in India which reflect ongoing and great promise proved to be Orissa, upper Kashmir and Kerala.   We saw that these areas showed the most promise for new churches.

     

    On our way home to the USA, we had a nice and needed time off in Ireland, which was our first time there. Many picures!

  • Safely home from Peru, Bolivia, Honduras and Costa Rica (Feb 26 to April 12, 2017). APRIL 18, ’17.

    Safely home a few days ago from Latin America!

    A highlight from 30 days in Peru was being asked to climb down into a very deep water cistern to baptize seven believers in the Lord!  I had just taught on obedience to the Lord. Seven stepped forward to say that they want to express their obedience, through immediate baptism. 


    Deb had time in Honduras (8 days) and Bolivia (5 days), and so as an on-going follow-up for Honduras she has invited certain Honduran ladies to join her in Peru this October.  We ALWAYS challenge everyone to depart their home area for new ‘Judeas’.

I also shared my heart and all my Indian-isms (three years in Bihar, as a boy).    He grew up a Catholic, but now learns of Jesus as only Savior.  He prayed with me to confess Jesus as Lord/Savior and so I have follow up with him mañana at 10 am in Surrey, BC.   • Safely home from Kashmir, India. December 20 2016.

    Dear friends, 

    It was a harder trip than most trips,  yet the Lord endured me (and my coworker,  Mike Burr)  through the upper Kashmir of north India,  then through three locations of Manipur, NE India,  then through three cities in south India. 

    It was also a cold trip (42 degrees inside hotel rooms) as most locations were at high altitude,  but the design was to come alongside in-country leaders on their 'turf'  and in their villages. 

    God is so good,  and now we pray for these leaders with whom we have spurred on for years,  for their success in His harvest.

    Thanks so much for your faithful prayers for us. God is good and we are so thankful for His provision of safety, good health, and some good interactions on this past Peru trip.

    Our time in the high Andes went well as we worked with our team of Peruvian Andes leaders and together followed up on several areas that have received previous training. It was good to evaluate and see for ourselves what the pastors are actually grasping and putting into practice in regard to evangelism, discipleship and church planting. This also helps us see who we will continue to work with in the future.

    From the Andes we went to the jungle town of Yurimaguas where we were specifically following up with 5 pastors that we had visited in February of this year and they asked us to come back for more training. Instead of training as a group we met with each pastor for a few days going with them to different persons of peace that they knew of and modeled for them how to evangelize and disciple. The pastors were very excited about this and said for the first time that they are understanding how some of the principles and practices that we have been training on actually work!

    We continue to learn that discipleship is an ongoing process that requires time, relationship, and training from the Word of God. Thanks for standing with us as we continue to GO and make disciples of all the nations.  

    Patrick has his last trip of the year (Nov 27 to Dec 16) soon, to follow up with persons we have trained in India.  He travels with a colleague and friend,  Mike Burr.

  • Safely home from 28 days in Peru. July 25, 2016.

    Hello!

    It is either my age, or I am pushing myself too hard from this last 28 days trip:

    --> Time in the Andes for Debbie and me (Patrick) was strategic as Debbie led this portion of the trip for assisting several churches near Sicuani of the high Andes in starting new daughter churches. This was done through day-by-day 'person of peace' searches by all participlants in four villages.  Deb did an awesome job as she led 30 of us (12 from the USA and 20 from Peru) in this endeavor.

    --> Time in Trujillo for myself (Patrick) and one 'mentee', Luis, from the country capital of Lima (10  hours away) was to provide four days of eyeball-to-eyeball coaching for a pastor attempting to break out of his traditional 'four church walls approach' to ministry INTO the community around  him. The pastor, Luis and I spent many hours each day:
    a) practicing a 'story-telling' approach to evangelism; 
    b) prayer walking;
    c) casting vision for God's desire for this huge town of Trujillo; and 
    d) entering into the homes of others so as to ask the Lord for persons of peace (Luke 10).

    The hope for this church in Trujillo is to start many new home groups through his town, leading to many new daughter churches.

    --> Time in NE Peru up and down the Amazon river  and several of her tributaries so as to train jungle pastors and their flocks regarding steps for biblical discipleship.

    Admittedly, I have returned to the USA pretty pretty pretty ‘pooped’ out. The jungle time (8 days) in complement with fives days in Trujillo  plus  11 days in the Andes  plus 3 days in LIMA plus getting there and back really "tuckered me out" :-)…but my spirit is strong.

  • Safely home from Africa. June 13, 2016. Uganda.

    This 20 day Africa trip was nearly perfect.

    We traveled a lot within Uganda,  for several venues. Most days were 13 hour days on very bumpy roads. On many boat River rides, too,  to islands off the coast from Uganda.  It was phenomenal.

    It was a great 20 day trip in that we got a chance to train but we all also got a chance to look at some of the churches which had previously been planted. Thanks so much for remembering that trip to the Lord. God is good and God is doing great things around the world.

    Please pray with us as Debbie and I depart  in 10 days for Peru. It will be a one month trip.

    Honestly,  in some ways this upcoming Peru trip (24 June to 22 July)  will be a bit more difficult than most. I will not give you the details,here, but it will have approximately five main locations (Trujillo, Sincuani of the high Andes; Requena +___________ of the Anazon; and Lima.

    2016 March 30 -- from Arequipa, Peru

    A two month trip is really not too long from the perspective of once having lived for many years in Honduras, and from the perspective of the Lord's 33 year 'trip' to planet earth.  Yet, mañana we take off for our last of four countries (in the Caribbean) for ministry during this 54 day trip. We get back to the north side of Seattle April 9th.

    A highlight: In Trujillo (off the north coast of Peru) we challenged in-city leaders for many new churches. Our key host (an ACTION national missionary) is now emending his three+ year plan so that he focuses his ministry only on OUTSIDE the four walls of his church (delegating the ministry of his church to others). He wrote someone saying that "Patrick was like the light of God" for a new design, vision and hope of many many houses of peace throughout his city. It is subtle, but a "rudder adjustment". I spoke to him softly in Spanish saying "ask and plan for five new "houses of peace" (which birth into new churches) this year (July to Nov);    nine new houses of peaces (new churches) next year March to Nov, 2016;    nine more new churches in 2017.    2018: "rinse/ repeat, with each new church multiplying".   He dropped his mouth and heart.  

    Please pray for us for this area and other areas here in Peru, but also in Latin America -- where we have been asked to train and mentor for new churches :- ).  Our energies are not expended, yet we 'mesh the throttle down' of our lives for these purposes.

    Deb and I board a bus in two hours, this time for the Andes city of CAJAMARCA, with seven days in that region, but in three towns (Chota, Bambamarca and Cajamarca)  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cajamarca )

    Prayer  is such a priority. Thus we ask you to 'shoot up a prayer' with us for our time now in Peru.

    Fast update for our 54 day trips (Feb 16 to April 9):

    Our Texas visit (6 days), Costa Rica visit, Colombia visit, Amazon NE Peru (7 days) visit and this past week Trujillo NW Peru (7 days) visit are all behind us….all has been very well.

    Today we depart on a seven hour uphill bus ride for new region in the Andes:  Cajamarca region ( 7 days)…for training in three towns (Chtoa / Bambamarca + Catamarca) in that high Andes (9000 ft) Catamarca region.

    I had laryngitis 3 days this past week, but our spirits are strong.  Good mentoring and good training nearly daily for new churches 🙂

  • Hello from a town called "Mala'" Peru 🙂

    The Lord is good! For this, we want to use our energies for His purposes.

    Please pray with us as this fortnight as Patrick is in the town of ‘Mala', Peru with roughly ten E3 Partners in-country and USA leaders.

    Next week Patrick darts off to LIMA and then to jungle area called Iquitos, along the Amazon River in NE Peru.

    Thank you for ‘shooting up a prayer'.

    We work in His harvest yet we also try our best to rest in His arms, and to take time to rest and reflect.

    This morning I read: “Let us therefore make every effort to enter His rest” Heb 4:11. Pray with us that Deb and I will rest in His arms of care.

    Debbie and I really hope that you have a special Christmas season this year.

    This year has been full and very full for all of us, yet all of us entrust our lives and our days to the Lord.

    We throw our lives and hearts to the feet of Jesus, as Apostle John did: "When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One" " (Revelation 1:17-18).

  • Hello from Kathmandu, Nepal (December 6 2015)

    Hello from Kathmandu, Nepal:

    This is ministry trip #3 to Nepal and #11 to India (and roughly #15 to Asia), during this past decade.  

    Highlights from this 20 day south Asia ministry trip:


    • November 18 to 26 = A one week training retreat for in-country missionaries (all of whom are mentees) in New Delhi, with reports and testimonies from all.  Glee was big time as I used my gift to encouragement at every turn for the 15 persons present.  
    • November 26 to December 6 = A 11 day personal retreat ‘just for me!” in Nepal to have time with the Lord to reflect and ‘come away’, wanting to ponder this past year in prayer, but also plan in prayer this next year.  A GLEE for me was that Trey and Sarah joined me for these 19 days to see me in action.
    • In Nepal I also have had time with two in-country leaders, but when I was asked to share during church service and my outline was:  a) throw your life to the feet of Jesus (Rev 1:17)(my favorite verse); b) love your wives dearly (Eph 5:25) and c) carve His word to your heart (Psalms 1).  One of the key leaders here I am inviting to Peru jungle with me, to train there next summer. This is by design.


    Here in moderately cold Kathmandu - a rather large city still still adjusting to their March earthquake, I send this to you with clear & verbal appreciation to the Lord and to you for His grace in our lives and for your grace, too, toward Debbie and me.

    Please shoot up a prayer = I travel back to north Seattle on Sunday night and get home to precious Debbie on Monday: -) .

    This year ends soon, and it has been full.  For Deb and me, our prayer is that for all of us our times and lives will have been always and everyday "in His hands” (Ps 31:15).

  • Safely home from Ecuador and Mexico (Nov 9 2015)

    Hello!

    Today is Monday November 9, and we rejoice to say that Deb and I are back home...back to her "home and native land", Canada.  Deb's parents reside near Vancouver and we are cooling our jets a bit with them.

    Our 48 day ministry trip to Mexico and Ecuador (Sept 20 to Nov 7) was full and very full, as e3 Partners arranged for us to be in roughly 20+ locations for a lot of training and mentoring.  

    Thank you for being in our lives and for giving so to allow us to train and mentor others for His purposes.

    On this end:  the end of the year trip is set for INDIA and NEPAL (Nov 17 to Dec 7), and so I depart next week for India, where roughly 15 mentees and I will have a retreat in NEW DELHI to 'spur them on for love and good deeds'.   

    Please pray for the details for this time in India and Nepal.  The INDIA time will be with mentees there, and the NEPAL time will be with daughter Sarah and son-in-law Trey.

    In India, I have also asked a mentee from PERU (Jhon Linares) to join me, but - additionally - I have asked a friend from Wisconsin to join me in India. I invited both leaders so as to multiply myself as I train others.

    Deb and I love this verse in Jeremiah:  "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths,
    ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls." (Jer 6:16)   Daily Debbie and I pray to walk in His purposes and along His paths.  Please pray with us to always have our eyes foxed on the Lord of the harvest.

  • Esmeralda, northern Ecuador (Oct 15 2015)

    Hello!

    Safe training and safe travels, so far.  We finished up 21 days in Mexico in roughly ten locations, and now we are in roughly 8 locations in Ecuador for 20 days (Oct 11 to 31).  Thank you for 'shooting up' a prayer or two as Debbie and I travel and train.  

    E3 Partners has asked us to train and mentor in Latin America. Thus we do it the old fashioned way: eyeball to eyeball.

    New churches are being planned for, which is one of our hopes as we train others.

  • Sept 28 2015 (Tehuacan, Mexico)

    With this as a six week trip, Deb and I have just wrapped up week #1 in and near the Sierra Madre mountain range of SE Mexico.

    We trained in three locations, but the happy thing is that our hosts are like 'sponges' who:  a) apply concepts for new churches; b) make plans for even more new churches and c) have told us that we came in perfect timing for their ministry needs.

    I am asking the Lord about coming back in January to this Sierra Madre region for an 12 day trip with a Mexican mentee and USA co-worker, based on a pleading request down here for more training.

  • Safely back Ftom Costa Rica (Sept 6 2015)

    Thank you for praying with us for this short 7 day ministry trip to Costa Rica. 

    Though I am still on the plane,  the report to you is that the main time there was for member care for an on-the-field couple.   

    I went with a colleague from Seattle, Bruce.  

    We train others,  but we also try to come alongside them to weep with those who weep and rejoice with those who rejoice.

  • This month begins with ministry in Costa Rica for Patrick (August 30 to September 5)

    This is a short update to request prayers as I depart in a few hours for a short seven day trip to Heredia, Costa Rica. 

    The trip has roughly twelve points on the in-country 'to do list' for training and mobilizing others, but the bottom line is that I will be going with an ACTION INTERNATIONAL colleague Bruce Ingram so as to visit with and have time with a brand new ACTION Int'l missionary there in Central America.  

    I have been asked to model and mentor, but the plain reality is that I do this by going to THEIR turf (ie Costa Rica).

    So, I have asked Bruce to go with me, which is the Paul/Barnabus style of the NT

    Please, pray with me as I travel, interact and (hopefully) inspire others for HIS great purposes.

    Normally I am the one flying off exotic places!  (I stay home this week still recuperating from 8 months of back to back travel ! 🙂  ).

    This week Debbie is in Costa Rica for an 11 day trip.   She is near  Liberia, NW Costa Rica.

    E3 is training her to train and mobilize others. Of course, she comes with roughly 32 years of cross-cultural experience, but we do thank the Lord as E3 grooms her to groom others.

  • Off to the home office in Plano, Texas

    One of the reasons we like e3 Partners is that the team of roughly 500+   e3 staff & missionaries 'lean forward' in to the wind of life for Kingdom expansion. Though expansion depends on the King, the Lord allows you and I to position our 'talents' for His purposes.

    It is heartening that though Debbie and I are trainers with and for e3 Partners (focus Latin America and beyond) their home office nonetheless is having Debbie and I and others comes to Plano this week for training.

    This will be our 6th trip to the 'mother ship' (they have office in San Diego, Birmingham, AL & Franklin, TN).  Please pray with us as we interact with others in Plano, Texas.

  • Home from Los Mochis Mexico... off to Long Beach, CA

    The Lord remains good, yet this old guy (at 54!) is a bit pooped right now.

    Time in Mexico was essentially perfect, as roughly 50 in-country leaders were prepared, trained, inspired for their harvest in Mexico. 

    Debbie (not Patrick :- ) has been asked to provided training in Long Beach CA for these next few days so, happily, I accompany Debbie to carry her luggage, drive the rental, eat her food and take a bit of a catch up rest for me. 

    And!  We are taking the last two days off (after the weekend) to cool our jets a bit near Laguna Beach, which for me at least will be very needed.

    Bless you for loving us, but also for preparing and inspiring us!

  • 9 day fast trip....West Palm Beach and then Arkansas

    No beaches for me in West Palm Beach this weekend, but in His grace I have been asked to train 140 area leaders with 4 other trainer  (thank goodness) this weekend.

    I would really covet your prayers for me: for a) calmness of heart.  My forte is training in foreign / very foreign settings. USA settings make my nerves jumply!

    3)) One the way home from Florida I will stop in ARKANSAS for three day for other "mentees": my kids Sarah and Trey : -) , for 3 days.   Sweet!

    We are lining up training for the rest of the year and into 2016.  Minutes ago I have purchase tickets for India / Nepal training (Nov 18 to Dec 8).  This will follow training in Mexico (Sept 26 to Oct 11) and Ecuador (Oct 11 to Nov 3).  Yes!  We 'push the envelope'...yet we do so so extend ourselves and to train others.  Additional training venues this year closer to home!  Bless you!

    Yes, i am a bit nervous for the daunting invitation to train in Costa Rica this next week, with roughly 20 leaders coming from neighboring nations.  I want to go in the Spirit, and of course what as blessing it is to go with Debbie.  Our Costa Rica dates are Jan 26 to Feb 2, then we are off to Lima, Peru.  The Lord is good! 

    Please uphold us to the Lord.

  • Starting with e3... Focus Latin America!

    The Lord is good!  Though with sadness we say this month 'so long for now' to our previous agency of 26 years, we say 'thank you Lord ' for his invitation by e3 to join them for focus within Latin America so as to train and mentor in country leaders for discipleship and multiplication of new churches.   Thank you, Lord!  In a few days we depart for our fourth ministry trip to South America with e3, where Debbie and I rendezvous with e3 leaders from roughly ten countries to pray, plan and strategise.
